Great Horned Owl (Otus virginianus)

Owliver

On October 16, 2003, Owliver, a mature Great Horned Owl, was retrieved from a farm in Centralia, MO. He had been seen down for the past two weeks. When his casts were examined, they showed that he had been living off of June bugs and grasshoppers. Radiographs showed that his left wing was broken in two places between his elbow and wrist. The fractures had already healed in an abnormal position that prevented flight. Because of this, he became a permanent resident with the Raptor Rehabilitation Project.
